BROOKLYN, New York (Ticker) -The Gowanus Heights Softball League started it's 2001 Play-Off Tournament this past Saturday where eight of their top ten teams battle it out to win the league championship.

In the early morning, the defending champions  Hit Squad swept the Cobras in two games. Spearheaded by Tony Tostones and his pitching brilliance. "He pitched fourteen inning of great softball and was simply brilliant" said his manager Eddie Gutierrez.

In the first Game The Men in Red outlasted the Cobras by the score of 4-3. The Cobras scrambled to an early lead by taking advantage of  two Hit Squad errors in the first innings of play. Hit Squad simply clawed their way back to win that game in seven innings.

The defending champions rallied back in the fourth inning, that was ignited by a lead-off walk by Shortstop Jose Velez. Which was followed by a game-tying Rbi triple by Hector Reyes who later scored the game-winning run. Johnny Blaze drove in the game winning with a cultch Rbi doubled.

Hit Squad 10,  Slugs 0

In the second game, it was more of Tony and his dominance along with some cultch hitting by his team mates. Hit Squad held  the lead the entire game.

Tony pitched seven innings of shut out ball and the Hit Squad scored eight unanswered runs in seven innings of play. "We dominated the Cobras in the second game and that's a good sign. Which just reinforces our confidence as we continue in throughout the play-offs." says DH- Eddie Gutierrez. "We have the Best Outfield and Best Infield in the league and it's just a beautiful thing to be a part of.

The Hit Squad won the game and Robert Dejesus solidified the team infield defense and came through in the cultch by going   2 for 2 and scoring and driving in 2 runs. - He kept the infield together and made his presence felt early by making some amazing a few tough plays to keep the team in the game.
