FAST FACTS: SCHEDULE | STANDINGS | STATS Hit Squad sweeps the Cobras this past weekend and advance to round two of the play-offs.- Dee Dee Velez 2001 Post-Season Hit Squad 4, Cobras 3 BROOKLYN, New York (Ticker) -The Gowanus Heights Softball League started it's 2001 Play-Off Tournament this past Saturday where eight of their top ten teams battle it out to win the league championship. In the early morning, the defending champions Hit Squad swept the Cobras in two games. Spearheaded by Tony Tostones and his pitching brilliance. "He pitched fourteen inning of great softball and was simply brilliant" said his manager Eddie Gutierrez. In the first Game the Men in Red outlasted the Cobras by the score of 4-3. The Cobras scrambled to an early lead by taking advantage of two Hit Squad errors in the first innings of play. Hit Squad just clawed their way back to win that game in seven innings. Hit Squad 8, Cobras 0 In e second game, it was more of Tony and his dominance along with some clutch hitting by his team mates. Tony pitched seven innings of shut out ball and the Hit Squad scored eight unanswered runs in seven innings of play. "We dominated the Cobras in the second game and that's a good sign. Which reinforces our confidence as we continue to play throughout the play-offs." says DH- Eddie Gutierrez. He also added "We have the Best Outfield and Best Infield in the league and it's just a beautiful thing to be a part of. The Hit Squad won the game and Robert Dejesus solidified the team infield defense and came through in the clutch by going 2 for 2 and driving in 2 runs and scoring 2 runs. - He kept the infield together and made his presence felt early by making some amazing a few tough plays to keep the team in the game.
